FAQs #3 I am about to start IVF and I have heard that we won’t need to do the Police Checks and Child Protection Order Checks, is that correct?

Current Victorian law requires that anyone having Assisted Reproductive Treatment (ART) such as Artificial Insemination and IVF procedures must undergo a criminal record check with Victoria Police and a Children Protection Order Check, before they can be treated at an ART clinic.

I certainly support the Victorian Government’s decision to remove mandatory police and child protection orders for people undergoing assisted reproductive treatments (ART). However, these new reforms which were introduced into Parliament on the 19th of February this year are still waiting to be passed and translated in to law. I understand that it could take several months for this process to be completed.

Monash IVF will advise patients on their website just as soon as the legislation has been passed. In the meantime, please continue with your application for Police Record Checks and Child Protection Order Checks to ensure there are no delays to your treatment.
